This past weekend I had the pleasure of celebrating the birthday of one of my dearest friends, at Din Tai Fung. Not only do I love birthdays and any excuse to celebrate the people I love, but this was my first experience eating at a restaurant that specializes in dumplings, so needless to say I was amped!
Din Tai Fung, which originated in Taiwan, has branches in Japan, China, South Korea, the US, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The Hong Kong branch was actually awarded one Michelin Star, which was a first for a restaurant from Taiwan. So, naturally, I went into this experience with very high expectations... and I was NOT disappointed.
As we were waiting to be seated we were able to watch as the dumplings were being prepared. I was absolutely mesmerized. The attention to detail that goes into each individual dumpling was incredible. Every dumpling is identical, with the same amount of folds. It was CRAZY watching this effortless (looking) yet meticulous task taking place.
Let's discuss the meal. It was incredible. We had a party of 6 and I want to say we each consumed about 12-15 dumplings - HOLY DUMPLINGS. Sounds like a lot right? On top of our sides of hot and sour soup, potstickers, fried rice, noodles, and garlic green beans, I can honestly say no one felt uncomfortably full or sick. I believe we owe this to the quality ingredients of the restaurant.
You know I do not mess around when it comes to food, so please listen to me when I say, you are 100% missing out if you have yet to experience the deliciousness that is Din Tai Fung.
Order a handful of dumplings, countless sides, a few greens, and enjoy. I really do not think you will find such quality dumplings anywhere else.
