Having grown up in the San Francisco Bay Area, this past weekend was quite the trip down memory lane for me. I was going to a Bridal Shower for one of my closest friends, so it was the perfect opportunity to road trip up to Nor Cal with my girl friends and make a weekend out of it.
Whenever I go back to the Bay Area I have a restaurant hit list. No matter how short a trip, I always make sure to hit up my favorite spots. Bakesale Betty, famous for their fried chicken sandwiches, was our priority this trip. Open 5 days a week from 11-2pm, there is always a line around the block for this joint. This lunch spot is full on flavor. The menu is handwritten and taped to the wall and ironing boards are used as tables (outside seating only). The ambiance is simple but no one is here for that, trust me.
Now, let's not get ahead ourselves in thinking that I let go of my healthy lifestyle when I travel. Sometimes, sure... but I have been very dedicated to my goals this month - no ifs, ands, or buts.
I was still holding myself 100% accountable to my healthy eating habits, but I did, as always, allow my self to indulge in a bite or two. I have found that what works best for me, especially while traveling, is making sure I pack a handful of my protein shakes with me. This way, I don't have to worry about where or what my food options are. I can enjoy my bites here and there, and then fill up on my shake.
I'm not one to inconvenience others because of my lifestyle choices. All of my friends and I live very different lifestyles and have different priorities. I just make sure to keep on top of my own, while accommodating others to the best of my abilities.
I highly encourage anyone and everyone to give Bakesale Betty a visit, you won't regret it.
