This Summer has been extremely transformative for me - in mind, body, and soul. I have been witness to a lot within myself, my family, and my friends. I think one of the most beautiful things about growing older is that you are constantly evolving into your best self, or at least that is the case for me... it is my WANT for self improvement, understanding, and growth.
This past year I have really started to focus on preventative health. Sure, I have been getting fit by changing my eating habits, counting my calories and working out, but I started to ask myself - have I been feeding my body nutritious fuel or simply feeding my body?
A few months back I was lucky enough learn a bit more about my body - food allergies, my gut health, digestion... etc. With this new knowledge, I am able to further modify my diet and really understand what best fuels my body. For example, I used to eat eggs almost every morning for breakfast, but little did I know I am actually allergic to eggs. It was a disservice to my body and my gut to eat them so often. Do I still treat myself to my favorite ' 2 Eggs Any Style' breakfast option? Of course! But, it is a TREAT and it happens occasionally.
This brings me to the main focus of this post...
I have decided to consciously make an effort to chose the word TREAT to replace CHEAT.
We are all aware of 'cheat meals' and the concept behind them. However, I do not love the term 'cheat.' Obviously I am treating myself to something that fits into the 20% of my 80/20 lifestyle, so why think of this special meal in a negative way? We all deserve to treat ourselves to foods that we love, oftentimes these are the foods that may not necessarily fuel our body in the healthiest of ways. I am a firm believer in treating yourself, not cheating!
Making this conscious effort has further helped me build an even healthier relationship with my body and food (treats included)! Enjoy your treat meals - in moderation and without guilt!
